Universal City Studios doing business as Universal Pictures or Universal Studios or just Universal is an American multinational film production and distribution company owned by Comcast. Universal is the oldest surviving film studio in the United States of America and fifth oldest surviving film in the world. Universal is one of the Big Five in Hollywood, California, USA, along with Warner Bros., Paramount, Sony Pictures Entertainment and The Walt Disney Company.

Universal owns five theme parks, two in USA in Orlando, Florida and Hollywood, California, one in Japan, one in China and one in Singapore, which they are part of the theme park unit, Universal Destinations & Experiences.

Universal was the first studio to has the film or distribution rights to the live-action film adaption of Watchmen to be directed by Terry Gilliam, but eventually left the production and deemed the complex graphic novel to be "unfilmable". The rights eventually goes to Paramount in 2004, then to Warner Bros., which it is the parent company of the graphic novel's distributor, DC Comics, but with Paramount owning 25% of the film and distributed it outside of North America and also the international release of the short animated direct-to-video movie adaption of the comic-in-the-comic, Tales of the Black Freighter.
