J.D. Dorchester’s made his fortune in the oil industry and owned significant real estate holdings in New York City.
In 1939, Dorchester rented one of his brownstone properties in Manhattan to the newly formed superhero team, the Minutemen, for $400 a month. This building served as the group’s official headquarters, providing them with a meeting space and a symbol of legitimacy during their early years of crimefighting.[1]
