• Arnold Steinitz, President of the World Chess Association, sends Adrian Veidt a formal letter praising his record-breaking simultaneous chess exhibition in New York City and invites him to speak at the WCA's annual conference in Austria.^[1]

1984

July

12th

• Adrian Veidt organizes a Veidt Enterprises benefit at Yankee Stadium to raise support for famine relief in Africa.^[2]

October

14th

• Time publishes an article reporting that Doctor Manhattan and Ozymandias have joined forces.^[3]

1985

October

11th

• Airing of an episode of late night UK current affairs review World In Focus with Jeremy Miller, in which photo-journalist Alain Guillon and author Hal Eisner discuss the emerging geopolitical crisis.^[4]

28th

• Nova Express publishes an issue titled the "Spirit of '77" featuring Doctor Manhattan, Ozymandias, and Rorschach on the front cover.^[5]

30th

• William J. Franklin writes a top secret paper concerning Doctor Manhattan and Soviet aggression; planned to be sent in November 2^[6]
