This is a sound effect that can't be found on any generic sound effects library, and is being placed in the Unknown Sound Effects Library. The whistle that is heard in this sound effect was thought to be a Chicago Burlington & Quincy 3 chime steam whistle recorded from Reading & Northern Railroad Pacific-type steam locomotive #425. However according to YouTube user Fast Freight Productions he said that it actually came from the infamous Bonhomie & Hattisburg Southern #250 as he was able to find three sound effects of old #250 on the SoundDogs website that sounded very close to the one heard in Everyone’s Hero and No Time For Nuts. So this confirms that the whistle is from #250 and not #425. Judging by how the sound effect sounds, it seems like the whistle was being blown, while the #250 would be passing by, creating a doppler-like effect when it was recorded.
