False portrayal of April 20, 1925 Minsky raid as the "night they invented striptease"
The film very inaccurately portrayed the Minsky raid as being "the night they invented striptease." It had been in fact invented centuries beforehand, and was even popular in England by the 1670s. Even in the United States, exotic dancing and striptease performance acts began gaining huge popularity momentum by the 1890s, especially in aftermath of "hoochie coochie" dancing becoming popularized at Chicago, Illinois' 1893 World's Columbian Exposition (also known the 1893 World's Fair).[1][2]
