The SMW Yoshi Sound is a common sound effect that is usually associated with Yoshi in most Mario games. It was created by using a Sweetwater library for the E-mu Emax II, which was released in 1989.
The origin of this sound is two orchestral hits sped up. These were from Koji Kondo's orchestral hits. The first hit had its pitch raised in quick succession, and the second hit had its pitch lowered in a similar way as the first. A video explaining and revealing the secret behind the Yoshi sound can be found here.
