This is a Skywalker Sound sound effect. It was created by either Randy Thom or Tim Nielsen, and it debuted in the 2004 motion-capture animated Christmas film, The Polar Express (2004).

• The Lone Ranger (2013) (Very beginning only, very low volume; heard once when Tonto swoops down underneath the coupling to help Dan with pulling out the pin to uncouple one half of the train from the other.)
• The Polar Express (2004) (Debut; used twice throughout the film. Once when the locomotive's wheels lock up after the Hero Boy pulls the emergency brake cable, and once when he starts to apply the brakes on the Observation car after it enters a tunnel at the North Pole.)
• War of the Worlds (2005) (Grinding element only; used once when the first Tripod rises out of the ground in Newark as everyone begins running away from it.)
