Monica and Friends (Brazilian Portuguese: Turma da Mônica previously known as Monica's Gang) is a Brazilian series of cartoons based on the comic book series of the same name by Mauricio de Sousa.
Starting June 27, 2004, Monica and Friends started airing on Cartoon Network Brazil. Later, in 2009, Cartoon Network would start commissioning new episodes of the show to air exclusively on their channel. They did this again in 2012 and again in 2017. The show also started airing on the Latin American feeds full time in 2013 (a previous dub had briefly aired in 2007). Starting in 2021, new episodes would air on Cartoon Network and start streaming on HBO Max (formerly Max). On July 24, 2025, it was announced that the show would be moved to Discovery Kids on August 11th, ending the show’s over 20 year long run on Cartoon Network.
Storyline
The show revolves around the adventures of Monica, a short tempered girl that has a stuffed rabbit named Samson that she beats people up with, Jimmy Five, who plans to defeat Monica, while also having a speech impediment, swapping R for L (or W in English), Smudge, Jimmy Five's best friend who ruins his plans, and has a fear of water, Maggy, who eats a lot, but never gets fat, and Milena, the first female character with dark skin, was the only recurring Afro-Brazilian character (not including Pelezinho and Ronaldinho Gaúcho) before Jeremiah. She has attitude, self-esteem, and skill. She is sensitive, loves nature and animals, cares about the environment, gives good advice to her friends, and her mother is a veterinarian.
