October 4th 1999 (United Kingdom, PC)
London Racer (also titled M25 Racer) is a racing video game developed and published by Davilex. It was initially released for Windows PCs in 1999, with a PlayStation version in 2000, exclusively in the United Kingdom. The game is based on the England Tour section of A2 Racer III: Europa Tour, released the same year, with the Dutch tracks omitted for the PlayStation version. A sequel to this game, London Racer II, was released in 2002.
Gameplay
London Racer's meat of the game in the PC version is the Tournament mode, divided into three leagues, each made to fit a specific class of vehicle. The player can spend their money on engine, gearbox, brake, tyre and turbo upgrades to improve their car's performance, or can afford a new vehicle if they have the money. During the game, players have to reach first place if possible, while avoiding the police and hitting speed cameras if they want to, but they have to be careful not to wreck their vehicle - if it's full, it's a "total loss" and they'll have to restart the race. Other game modes include single races and a time trial mode, whilst the PlayStation version is a one player only game with the tournament mode available to play.
