Storyline

Set in the then future of 1998, Hardline takes place in a world where a dangerous cult known as the Sectoids, cause violence and mayhem across the Midwestern United States. Players control rescue pilot Ted Irvin (played by David Gregg), who begins the game by responding to a distress call in a warehouse. When he arrives, he's too late: the person calling for evac has already been killed by the Sectoids, and Ted finds a pistol to defend himself with. When Ted returns the way where he came from, the Sectoids blow up his evac chopper. Angered, Ted takes out the remaining Sectoids outside the warehouse, before he's knocked out and taken to a rebel base. Now supporting the rebels, Ted must stop the Sectoids any way he can, while trying to find out about his past, with his parents being killed in a car accident and his brother is a fully mechanical being that the Sectoids worship, known as The Deck.

Gameplay

Hardline's gameplay is mostly an arcade shooter set on live-action backgrounds, with digitized (sometimes pre-rendered CGI) sprites. The gameplay is broken up into (skippable) cinematics, or are sometimes being required to solve a simple puzzle in order to progress. The game is split into three CDs, with the player being prompted to switch discs at the end of a individual part or when loading a save.
