The Angry Machine, more commonly known as the Hypnotoad Buzz due to the characteristic buzzing noise associated with the character, is an electronic sound effect that's famously heard in the Futurama television series by The Simpsons creator Matt Groening. Originally recorded in October 1992, future Futurama editor Danik Thomas had an old analog signal generator which he hooked to his bass amplifier when working on a music video in Fort Wayne, Indiana at the time. The result was a distinct, obnoxious electronic buzzing sound which it received the apt title of "Angry Machine".
In the years following up to Futurama's production, according to commentaries on the DVD release of the series, the "Angry Machine" sound effect was added as a temporary sound effect during early stages of animation, originally going to be replaced by a "better" sound once the episode becomes more finalized. However, the sound effect became popular with Futurama staff, thus a "temporary" sound effect was kept for "The Day the Earth Stood Stupid" where it was famously used for the Hypnotoad in its debut appearance. It was even claimed to be an error sound that's part of the editing system for the show. Since then, it has become a sound effect associated with the Hypnotoad, even spawning memes in the 2010s and has become an iconic sound effect for Futurama.
