F/X2 (also known as F/X2: The Deadly Art of Illusion) is a 1991 American action thriller film that was directed by Richard Franklin and stars Bryan Brown and Brian Dennehy. It is a sequel to the 1986 film F/X, and follows special effects expert Ronald "Rollie" Tyler and former NYPD detective Leo McCarthy as they investigate the suspicious death of one of Rollie's friends.
This film would mark Franklin's final American film before he returned to his native Australia. The film would be distributed by Orion Pictures in the United States, while Columbia Pictures handled international releases. It received mixed reviews and was a moderate box office success, earning $21.1 million against a budget of $18 million.
Storyline
Former movie special effects expert Rollie Tyler (Bryan Brown) has now become a maker of elaborate toys. When a police officer asks him to use his special effects skills to help catch an elusive killer, he teams up with old friend and private investigator Leo McCarthy (Brian Dennehy). Using a combination of old-fashioned detective work and movie magic, the two uncover a plot involving stolen gold and corrupt cops, while evading a mysterious assassin.
