Amanda the Adventurer is an indie-horror game developed by MANGLEDmaw Games and DreadXP. It was released on Steam on April 25, 2023, and on the Nintendo Switch on September 19, 2023. It is the full release of Amanda the Adventurer: Pilot Episode developed for a game jam.
After receiving positive feedback for the original game Amanda the Adventurer created for a 2022 game jam, MANGLEDmaw partnered with DreadXP to develop a full-fledged version with a new storyline. Amanda the Adventurer was initially released for Windows on April 25, 2023, and later became available on consoles, Android, and iOS. A sequel, Amanda the Adventurer 2, was released on October 22, 2024.
Pilot Episode
Amanda the Adventurer: Pilot Episode is the original version of Amanda the Adventurer developed by MANGLEDmaw Games. It was released in April 2022 for the DreadXP Found Footage Jam on Itch.io.
Formerly known as just "Amanda the Adventurer", the "Pilot Episode" was added on February 6, 2023, to distinct the original game and the full game.
Storyline
Full Game
Having inherited their Aunt Kate's house, Riley Park starts exploring what the reclusive woman left behind. In the attic, Riley is surprised to find a stack of VHS tapes next to an old TV set. The tapes seem to be episodes of an early 2000's era children's cartoon they have never seen before. Intrigued, Riley pops the first tape into the VCR.
Not the highest budget production from the looks of it. It appears to have been made locally and features a little girl named Amanda and her loyal yet shy best friend, Wooly the Sheep. While the episode appears charming and simple on the surface, an uneasiness starts to settle in as Riley realizes that Amanda and Wooly seem to be communicating directly through the television set. A gnawing feeling in the back of their mind presses them to stop, but Riley is compelled to continue watching the tapes. It's almost as if Amanda needs something, and Riley becomes fascinated with finding out what that something may be.
Pilot Episode
Digging through your attic you found a box set of an old children's TV show, Amanda the Adventurer, starring a brave girl named Amanda and a cowardly sheep named Wooly. You don't recall any specific episodes or characters in the show. Or what happens in the show exactly. Or much about it at all come to think about it, but it still feels strangely familiar. Curiosity takes hold and you decide to watch the tapes and let Ȟ̴̨͈̳̜̦̠̲̰̦̹͑́̒͝O̸͕̺̯͚̫͋̊̄̾̓̓̂R̴̯̗̹̀̓͋̀́͑̾̑͘R̷̙̘̼̋̌̈́̄̎̍͐̂̕Ö̵̢̧̗̭͖̗̺̯́͒̓̃̓̀̒̇R̴͎̙̠͓̫̞͖͖̽ nostalgia take you back to a simpler age.
