Air Bud: Golden Receiver (also known as Air Bud 2) is a 1998 American-Canadian sports comedy film directed by Richard Martin. It is the sequel to Air Bud. The film was shot in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. It is also the last of the Air Bud films to be released theatrically. Outside the United States the film was often titled Air Bud 2. This film is dedicated in memory of the original Air Bud (Air Buddy), who died of Synovial sarcoma – a rare form of cancer that affects soft tissue near the joints of the arm, leg, or neck – in 1998, just several months before the movie's release.
Unlike its predecessor, Air Bud: Golden Receiver was a box office failure, receiving negative reviews and grossing $10,224,116 against a budget of $11 million. The film received a 21% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 29 reviews and an average rating of 4.3/10.
Storyline
Following the events of the previous Air Bud movie, Buddy now has the uncanny ability to play football. As a result, Buddy joins his owner Josh’s junior high school football team, the Fernfield Timberwolves. Before Buddy joined the team, they struggled a lot. But thanks to Buddy’s super football skills, the team is very successful. However, two Russian kidnappers want Buddy as part of the special attraction of their animal circus.
