November 14, 1971 – December 24, 2014
Štaflík a Špagetka is a Czech animated series directed by Václav Bedřich, screenwriter Alena Munková based on a story by Jiří Munk and artist Zdeňko Smetana, originally titled Psí život, which was created as a children's evening program for broadcast on the former Czechoslovak Television in 1971.
The series has a total of 39 episodes of 8 minutes each. The first parts were created already in 1968 and premiered in 1969. However, the authors had to change the original title Dog's Life due to the political atmosphere at the time. The first black-and-white thirteen-part series was not shown on the television screen until 1971. It was followed by the second – now in color – series of thirteen parts from 1988. The third and so far the last thirteen-part series was filmed in 2014.
The main characters are two stylized dogs (a long black Spaghetti, a tall white Chopstick), the third prominent character in all the stories is a crow (raven/raven). All three were modeled on the animals that Jan Munk raised in his childhood.
