FlyWeldingford 629 was a scheduled flight from Weldingford Regional Airport (later Weldingfordshireton International Aiport) on a sightseeing trip across the Railroadsian Islands using a RRSP15 Seaplane (similar in size to the real-world Latecore 631.) On August 9th, 1947, shortly after being towed away from Seaplane Dock 2 and taxing off, it suffered a major engine explosion taking out two of the three engines on the left wing, which started a major fire. Seconds later, the fragile control wires snapped due to the heat causing the aircraft to lose control for that wing entirely. The pilots struggled to keep the plane up before it hit the cliffs of a small island being used as a pasture, ripping the airframe apart and launching the cockpit and nose onto the island, and nearly striking a cabin housing a few people.
Investigation
Mere hours after the incident, recovery efforts began and ended the following week. After recovery efforts, the investigation begun. Many of the theories involved fuel leaks, engine faults, or even a bombing by Brihanites (famously attempted to invade Weldingford), but it was ultimately determined that a faulty wiring system from the wing caused the fire. The Edwost Corporation had not added proper insulation in some of the wires, causing sparks to hit some of the fuel tanks in the wings.
