Etymology

The name "San Christian" is believed to have originated from Christian Harbor, an early 19th-century trading post and fishing settlement along the coast of what is now Bloxburg Valley. The name "Christian" itself is thought to have been derived from a merchant or navigator who played a crucial role in the establishment of the settlement, though historical records are unclear on the exact individual. Some local historians say that the name may have honored Saint Christian, an early prominent figure who helped in the development of San Christian's harbor, while others believe it was named after a notable trader or explorer who frequently traveled through the region. However, his exact name cannot be found.

By the 1830s, the settlement had expanded beyond the harbor area, and locals began referring to the growing community as San Christian, possibly influenced by Ro-Spanish and Robloxian naming conventions common in coastal regions at the time. The term “San” (meaning "Saint" in Spanish) was likely added to show the cultures of this period, though there is no proper record of an actual saint named Christian associated with the area. When the town was officially incorporated in 1842, the name San Christian was formally adopted.
