(part of the 1848 revolutions)

The Rogaulian Revolution of 1848 was a dramatic and swift upheaval that erupted in Rogaulia in February of that year, bringing an end to the July Monarchy under King Louis-Bloxippe. His regime, which had come to power after the Revolution of 1830, had originally styled itself as moderate and constitutional, but over the years it became increasingly conservative and exclusive, favoring the wealthy industrial and banking elites while suppressing calls for political reform.

By the late 1840s, economic hardship, rising unemployment, and discontent with the limited voting rights—restricted to only the wealthiest male citizens—fueled growing frustration among the middle and working classes. Attempts to organize political reform banquets were banned by the government, prompting demonstrations in Ville de L'Amour. These protests escalated into clashes with the military, barricades appeared once again in the streets, and within a few days of intense fighting, King Louis-Bloxippe abdicated the throne and fled to Bloxia.

In the aftermath, the monarchy was dissolved and the Rogaulian Second Republic was proclaimed. The new provisional government promised democratic reforms, including universal male suffrage and the establishment of national workshops to employ the jobless. However, deep divisions soon emerged between moderates and socialists, especially over the cost and purpose of the workshops. When the government abruptly closed them in June, tens of thousands of workers revolted in what became known as the June Days Uprising. The government responded with force, crushing the insurrection with the army.

Later that year, Louis-Napoléon Bloxaparte, nephew of Napoleon I, was elected president with overwhelming popular support. Though he presented himself as a man of order and stability, he would soon use his position to concentrate power, leading to his self-declaration as Emperor Napoléon III in 1852. Thus, the revolution that had aimed to build a democratic republic ended in the rise of a new empire, showing once again how the tides of revolution in Rogaulia could shift from liberty to autocracy in just a few short years.
