Robloxity County Tornado outbreak of May 19, 2021

A powerful shortwave trough rotated through Robloxity's downtown area on May 19, 2021, causing a significant severe weather episode across the downtown area. Nine tornadoes were spawned, one of which was violent, including an EF5 which literally ripped the downtown, causing the downtown buildings to tumble. Only four buildings survived the tornado outbreak. As supercells began to grow upscale early morning on May 19 and during the late evening hours of May 19, a severe squall line developed and produced widespread damaging winds and several tornadoes in Downtown Robloxity and Uptown Robloxity. Four more tornadoes developed in Robloxity's suburbs on the late evening of May 19 before the outbreak came to a close.

Before the Robloxity County Tornado outbreak of May 19, 2021

A risk area for Downtown Robloxity had been highlighted by the Storm Prediction Center since May 16. A rare day 1 moderate risk was issued on May 18, with the mention of a possible small-scale severe weather outbreak with significant tornadoes. 12 hours before, the Storm Prediction Center outlined a 10% hatched tornado risk and 30% hatched hail risk in Downtown Robloxity, in advance of what was expected to be a downtown-wide severe weather event. The subtle shortwave trough that was forecast to move across the region nine hours before was strong enough in most model guidance to provide enough uplift to overcome a stout cap that would be in place across the region. Supercells with all severe hazards would be possible along the dryline in the Downtown Robloxity should the cap break. However, visible satellite imagery that day revealed that the shortwave was moving much slower and weaker than projected. Explosive development eventually did occur, but it took until between 9:30 and 10:00 PM Robloxity County Standard Time for mature storms to develop, and even then they were generally disorganized and not discrete. Thankfully, no tornadoes touched down on May 18, but there were dozens of small hail and wind reports. Eventually, an MCS developed on 11:00 PM which moved across the Downtown Robloxity area and into uptown Robloxity that night, leaving behind a cold pool and likely was not a tornado, henceforth limiting the earliest extent of the severe weather outbreak to May 19.

The setup on this day warranted a high risk, which was issued the midnight of this day with a tornado outbreak expected the entire day in Downtown Robloxity and Uptown Robloxity. The shortwave that rotated across the region on this day was much more potent than the one 12 hours ago, and the overall setup was extremely conductive for tornadoes. With a deep low pressure center located in the northeastern Downtown Robloxity, surface winds pulled deep moisture northward. A noticeable bulge in northwestern Downtown Robloxity served as an initiation point for numerous intense tornadic supercells from 3:00 AM to 9:00 AM, several of which were cyclic and produced several significant tornadoes. A warm front ran across central Downtown Robloxity along the edge of the cold pool left behind by overnight convection from the activity 12 hours ago, which was a separate focal point for tornadoes, albeit activity there was much more messy and generally weaker. Several tornadoes touched down from 3:00 AM to 9:00 AM across Downtown Robloxity and Uptown Robloxity, one of which was violent, including an EF5 which literally ripped the downtown, causing the downtown buildings to tumble. Only four buildings survived the tornado outbreak. One Robloxian went to work at the Emerald Tower to clean the floors and was cleaning when they saw a resident run to his room and hear loud banging and crashing sounds from the building. It went dark and the Robloxian investigated a light source coming from the resident's room. The Robloxian opened the door and saw a destroyed Robloxity in front of his very eyes, the tornado about a mile or two away in the rural area. The Robloxian can't imagine what the inside of a tornado would look like. That will be a day, The Robloxian will never forget. Storms eventually merged into a small squall line which produced widespread damaging winds across Southeastern Uptown Robloxity, north and northeastern Downtown Robloxity, and southwestern Robloxity suburbs that night. The complex continued eastward through the overnight hours, moving through Robloxity County's other cities and towns, where a few tornadoes occurred late AM hours and early PM hours.

A moderate risk for tornadoes had been in place for southeastern Downtown Robloxity and northeastern Uptown Robloxity on the PM hours, but the late AM squall line that went through the area made airmass recovery difficult. So, despite favorable shear for another regional tornado outbreak on the PM hours, stable air prevailed across the main risk area due to the morning convection. The 15% hatched tornado risk was downgraded to a 10% hatched risk, and the highest risk area was confined to a narrow corridor in eastern Downtown Robloxity and western Uptown Robloxity. Tornadoes on the PM hours were limited to the AM hours squall line events, though four tornadoes touched down in western Robloxity suburbs at 9:00 PM with the activity that managed to develop.

The tornado outbreak destroyed Robloxity. This is truly a date which will live in Robloxity's infamy.
