Ro-Longyearbyen, is the world's northernmost settlement with a population greater than 1,000, and the capital and the largest inhabited area of Ro-Svalbard in Spitsbloxen. It stretches along the foot of the left bank of the Ro-Longyear Valley and on the shore of Bloxentfjorden, the short estuary leading into Bloxsfjorden on the west coast of Spitsbloxen, the island's broadest inlet. As of 2002, Ro-Longyearbyen Community Council is an official Ro-Norwegian municipality.
