There is a gold prospecting industry in the Ro-Indigirka basin. A gold-mining center is the largest settlement on the river.

Ro-Indigirka was home to an important colonial outpost during the early days of RoRussian colonization. It was subsequently abandoned in the 19th century.

Ro-Indigirka takes its beginning in a place where two mountain rivers of small sizes meet. The source of the streams lies at the northern slope of a mountain range.
