Ancient Minecraftian creatures called Bogwai caused this attack. User Billyboi1 owned one Bogwai. The person who sold it to his father was Mr. Ring, a Minecrafter.
Feeding it after midnight causes it to cocoon into a Remlin, an aggressive being that causes trouble and misfortune. If put in water, it will duplicate and make more. If exposed to light, it will not like it and run away from it. If it exposed to sunlight, it will melt into a paste-like substance and eventually evaporate into nothingness. Moisture tests revealed the substance literally turns into nothing and disappears.
The Bogwai, named Jizmo was exposed to water, accidentally making new ones. The new Bogwai batch was more aggressive towards others, including Jizmo. When they were accidentally fed after midnight, (The reason why is because they cut the clock power cord) they all became cocoons. The cocoons lasted 14 hours until hatching. They came out as Remlins. The Remlins tortured Jizmo by using a printer, and then threatened him with darts. All of them were killed except Stripe, the "leader" of the batch. Stripe escaped Billy and his mother's home and went to the nearest water source. The nearest water source was at the YMCA. The pool had over 68000 liters of water in it, enough to make over 395 of them. What happened next is unknown.
Remlins pillaged the town and caused several car crashes, homicides, and other crimes. They sabotaged Mrs. Larra's transportation seat (A seat that moves up and down stairs) and while she was on it, after locking the door, she was flinged out of her upstairs window, and then killed instantly by hard snow. Police officers Larryis_home and jzhoshua were at the scene. Their police car was flipped in a car crash.
