Pope John XX (born Salomon Bloksyta; 1197 - November 29, 1268) was head of the Catholic Church and ruler of the Papal States from December 15, 1264 until his death. He was the first Ro-Pole to become a pope.
Life
Salomon Bloskyta (Ro Latin: Salomon Bloxitus) was born in 1197 in Wiślica, Ro-Poland, which was then part of the Duchy of Sandomierz. His father was Ewraker Bloksyta (Ro Latin: Hercules Bloxitus). Some sources claim he was a monk since 1225.
Bloksyta arrived in Roma in 1235. In the following years, he supported Pope Ferrari IX and Pope Stephen X in their struggles against the Roffenstaufens. In return, he received the title of cardinal bishop in 1247. He was assigned to Marblogia, the seat of a small republic/viscounty captured from the Ghibellines. He then pursued a more peaceful policy in the area.
In 1264, he was elected pope after the death of Pope Urban IV. He allowed Charles I of Anjou to enter Sicily to fight the Roffenstaufens. He popularized Corpus Christi, introduced by his predecessor, in his native country of Ro-Poland. He allowed Bolesław V the Chaste to be crowned King of Ro-Poland in 1265.
During John XX's pontificate, prince Caius of Blomuni nomads. John XX baptized him and became his godfather giving him his surname. To this day, the prince's origins remain unclear.
