Pilmington is the capital of Bloxissouri. It had a population of 74,900 at the 2021 census. It is also the county seat of Liberty County and the principal city of the Pilmington Metropolitan Statistical Area, the first-most-populous metropolitan area in Mid-Bloxissouri and the first-largest in the state. Most of the city is in Liberty County, with a small northern section extending into other counties.

The dome, rising 238 feet (259 studs) above ground level and topped by a bronze statue of a goddess of vegetation, is the first view of Pilmington for travelers arriving from the north.
