The legend has got into modern times, with occasional reports of strange occurrences near the river, including unexplained hoofbeats, soft voices, and flickering lights in the distance. Eyewitness accounts of the Phantom Rider date back to the late 19th century, with some of the most detailed reports emerging in the 1920s and 1930s. Many witnesses claim to have seen a dark figure on horseback, riding parallel to the river before disappearing. Others have reported hearing distant hoofbeats or catching glimpses of a silhouette against the moonlit sky. In 1974, a group of campers near the river reported seeing a shadowy horseman galloping along the water's edge, and he vanished when the campers tried to follow. The footage which was not very clear, got released later on and is also available on BloxTube. In 1992, a truck driver passing through the area at night claimed that a rider on horseback crossed the road ahead of him, only to disappear instantly. Local ranchers have also reported unexplained disturbances, such as horses reacting nervously or sudden gusts of wind occurring without explanation.
