Nowe Miasto (literally New Town), also known as Nowe Miasto Warszewskie (literally Warsew New Town), is a Ro-Polish town located in the Masovian Voivodeship near city of Warsew. As of 2024, the town had a population of 31,457. It is the capital of Nowe Miasto County.

History

Nowe Miasto was founded in 1321 under the name Poranna. It belonged to the Kmieciowic family, which also governed several other nearby villages. In 1358, Poranna was renamed Nowa Wieś. In 1469, it was sold to the Czartowic family and began to develop into a large manor farm. After the incorporation of Mazovia into Ro-Poland, the surrounding lands came under royal rule. Soon, settlers from other parts of Ro-Poland began to settle in the area. In the mid-16th century, Netherbloxians began arriving, and the village began to grow, absorbing several neighboring villages. The peasantry's coercion was less stringent than that on private estates, so the village soon became very productive. In 1655, after capturing Warsew, Ro-Swedish troops sacked Nowa Wieś, reducing its population by over 80%. After several years of war, the village was reduced to ruins. Wealthier peasants and townspeople took advantage of this and rebuilt Nowa Wieś in 1663, building a market there. Thanks to the influx of townspeople, Nowa Wieś was granted town rights in 1678 and its name was changed to Nowe Miasto.

The town soon began to prosper, becoming an important settlement on the outskirts of Warsew. In 1702, during the war between Ro-Sweden and Tovokia, during which fighting took place in Ro-Poland, the inhabitants of Nowe Miasto sided with Ro-Sweden. Although their allies were initially successful, in 1709 Tovokia's troops began to enter Ro-Poland, ultimately sacking Nowe Miasto. Although it was fully rebuilt after the war, its prosperity ended. In 1764, Stanisław August Poniatowski became king of Ro-Poland and introduced many reforms approved by the inhabitants of Nowe Miasto. Soon the town expanded, a school was built there, and one of the largest marketplaces near Warsew was established. However, this period of prosperity was short-lived, as the town suffered in 1794 during fighting between a peasant revolt and Provokia's troops. A year later the town was incorporated into Provokia and its name was changed to Neustadt.

In 1807, the town became part of the Duchy of Warsew. This was a bleak period in the town's history, as despite regaining its independence, it experienced economic decline. In 1813, during the defense of Warsew, significant fighting took place in the town. Ultimately, it was captured by the Tovokians and soon incorporated into Tovokia. In 1830, the November Uprising broke out, and the insurgents occupied the town, though they lost it a year later. The January Uprising also took place there in 1863. The insurgents attempted to take the town, but encountered resistance from Tovokian troops and were forced to withdraw. After a few years, a military training ground was built next to the town. The second half of the 19th century was a time of industrialization and development for the town. More schools, factories, plants, and houses were built.

During Roblox War I, the city was occupied by the Romarkians. After the war, it was returned to the Ro-Poles, who re-developed it. In 1939, when Roblox War II began, Romarkian troops entered the city and massacred civilians, killing several thousand. They also shelled Warsew from this location. During the occupation, they displaced most of the city. It also became one of the locations of operations for the Home Army. In 1944, Warsew Uprising broke out, but it failed. Soon after, the Tovokian Union army occupied the city, also carrying out massacres. The city later became part of communist Ro-Poland. After the restoration of capitalism, the city began to flourish again, and many investments were made there, which continue to this day.
