Mega Man Battle Network (ロックマンエグゼ) is a series of fan-made OVAs created by a group of Neo-Japanese Robloxians credited as “Hakurei-san”. It was created in early 2001 as a joke, but it became popular for some reason.

It had a total of seven seasons, from 2001 until 2007. The series is a parody of magical girl anime. While the sixth season OVAs have been found, the rest of the OVAs still remain to be found.

This series is a derivative work based upon Mega Man.

DVD Sales..

The series had a official DVD that was sold between 2001 and 2011. These DVDs were rare as they were only sold during Ro-Comiket (a popular Doujinshi convention) and did not sell well.

Because of the low DVD sales, the series was abandoned by Hakurei-San in 2011 due to the low sales humiliating them.

Cancelled season and movie

Before the series’ finale, a season 8 was planned. However, it was cancelled due to the low sales not being enough to meet the production budget and also because the creators were busy with other projects. All of this were revealed in a 2019 interview.

There was also a movie planned, but it was also scrapped in favor of creating a proper conclusion of the series.

Trivia

  • What is so absurd about this series is that six seasons of it are lost media, even though it was popular in 2011.
  • Also, at some point, the entire series had been uploaded into BloxTube in its entirety, meaning that there was a brief and fleeting moment when all of the series before season 6 was found. Unfortunately, the entire series before season 6 became lost media again when Hakurei-san immediately issued a copyright strike because they did not want Robloxians to see their old work.
    • Considering this fact, it will be likely that the series will remain lost media, as the only thing that has been found is the opening and a few episodes that were fandubbed into English, but both of these found media are in extremely low quality, until the copyright expires on the work.
    • Speaking of Hakurei-san, they have erased their existence from the Roternet, so Robloxians could not find a way to contact them online, let alone about the series. The reason why they are referred as “they”/“them” is because it was actually a team of two Robloxians, Masahiro Yasuma and another Robloxian who remains unknown to this day.
  • Usually, fan-made work is animated poorly. This seems to be one of the rare exceptions where it is animated well.
  • The entire series’ budget was R$16,800, which is impressive because of how the animators managed to handle a low budget, as they decided to put all their effort in this series.
  • In 2018, a LifeSync Marketplace sale happened where the second season had to be inserted into the GBA, however it is unknown who bought it while it was still being sold.
