Lopburi is a district of City of Thailand. It is about 150 kilometers (536 kilo-studs) northeast of Bangkok. It has a population of 58,000. The district has a total area of 6.85 km² (87 kilo-studs2). It is also famous for its legions of crab-eating macaques that inhabit the old temples. Monkeys are a common sight all over the city of Lopburi, and many will gather for the feast offered to them during this festival. According to the Thai version of the Hindu epic Ramayana, the deity Lord Rama built the old town of Lopburi with the help of his friend Lord Hanuman, a deity that looks like a monkey.
