The Liberty County Sheriff's Office is the primary law enforcement agency in Liberty County, serving the entire area of the county that is not protected by River City Police Department, or Springfield Township Police.
Divisions:
Patrol:
Rendering of a Patrol Deputy
The Patrol Division is the primary service that the Sheriff's Office offers. Members of the Patrol Division normally drive marked vehicles and have constant access to firearms [rifles, shotguns] if they have trained properly for them. Deputies in this division conduct traffic stops, respond to robberies, and serve low-risk warrants.
Special Weapons and Tactics
Rendering of a SWAT Operator
The Special Weapons and Tactics division, or SWAT, is a highly advanced division designed to respond to incidents, in which standard Patrol Deputies cannot de-escalate. LCSO SWAT memebers use M4 URGI rifles [a select-fire capable variant to the M&P-15 rifle], 9-bang grenades, and riot guns to defuse hostile situations. Examples include terrorist attacks, high-risk warrants, or high-profile event security.
Green Initiative Committee
Rendering of a GIC Deputy
The Green Initiative Committee is an experimental division designed specifically for public outreach and to show police presence while not intimidating civilians. Many members take part in the County Corrections & Rehabilitation, as Probation Officers, or Jail Guards. GIC Members use Electric or Hybrid patrol vehicles to help the environment. Members of GIC also use non-lethal and less-than-lethal weapons. In the case lethal force is to be used in an emergency, members are issued a Glock 19 which is to be locked in a safe inside their vehicles.
Detective and Undercover:
Rendering of a Plainclothes Deputy [with bodycam]
Most detective and undercover officers are based in the LCSO Headquarters. They normally drive unmarked vehicles. Usually, they lead investigations, assist in operations with SWAT or Federal agents, or can be placed on the HEAT unit, which is the Pursuit Intervention division of the LCSO. They do not have a dress code unless assigned to the HEAT unit, so they will usually be in plainclothes, trenchcoats, or suits.
