Kirby (also known as Kirby: Right back at Ya!) is a series of video games created by Masahiro Sakurei in 1992.
The franchise’s most recent game is “Kirby Air Riders”, which came out on November 20th, 2025 internationally.
THE LORE
Basically, it is about the adventures of a pink blob (or circle) called Kirby, who has copy abilities.
Development
The first game (simply titled Kirby's Dream Land) in the franchise began in 1989, when one day; Mr. Sakurei was bored and he decided to make a game for the original Gamaboi about a pink circle during his second year of college. Around 2 years later in 1991, Sakurei pitched his game to Ro-HAL Laboratory.
Kirby's Dream Land was initially planned to be a single game, but Satoru Iwata saw potential in the game being a franchise for some reason.
The first game was in black and white because it was released on the Gamaboi. When it was exported to Robloxia in 1993, the game cover's artist did not know what color Kirby was, so the artist decided to make Kirby's color white because that was what was depicted in the game. Apparently he never heard from Mr. Sakurei that it is supposed to be pink.
