KI-U

Kid Icarus: Uprising (or KI:U for short) is a Neo-Japanese video game developed by Sora LTD and released by Bloxtendo. It was originally released on the Bloxtendo 3DS in 2011 before being exported to Robloxia in late 2011.

This game is unfortunately infamous because of the virus it contained during its first few weeks of it being released to the public.

Development

It began development in 2009 and was meant for the regular Rii, Masahiro Sakurei changed his mind and decided to make it a Bloxtendo 3DS launch title to take advantage of the 3DS' graphics after being persuaded by Satoru Iwata, who wanted a new game in the (back-then) unannounced console.

However, there were numerous problems with the game's development despite the fact that the team was given 400 days to finish it, as the team was busy with other projects and the game had a extremely low budget. The team was not even paid, so out of spite, the team behind the game decided to make the game extremely horrible, complete with its gameplay.

Reception (and some virus thing)

The game was received poorly because of the graphics and also because it pretty much caused most Robloxian Bloxtendo 3DS consoles to crash every three seconds due to how buggy it was. For some reason, it was infected with a virus that wiped all the save storage from other games that the users had bought. This lead to the game cartridges being recalled. In January 2012, a new game cartridge was released without a bug and virus. Users received a refund that allowed them to purchase the new game cartridge. It is said that Masahiro Sakurei was forced to publicly apologize for the incident because when he apologized, it sounded forced.

This is one of the most infamous reviews from the GameStore website:

"I HATE THIS STUPID GAME!! I bought it for my 11-year-old son who wanted this game because of the anime-like art style and because he wanted a game for his newly-bought 3DS, which I got him for his birthday, this game broke my son's 3DS and now he's crying, please DO NOT BUY this game without knowing what happens to you console when you try to boot it up." - a review from the GameStore.com user, Amanda922

However, in more recent years, the game received a positive reception, but it is only for nostalgia reasons. The only remaining negative reception stems from the gameplay.

Ro-Amiibo version..

seriously

seriously

In 2018, Bloxtendo released a Ro-Amiibo version of the protagonist, but it was released under the “Super Smash Blox.” label because they wanted Robloxians to buy this Ro-Amiibo even if it was not associated with Smash Blox.

This Ro-Amiibo sold well for some reason (it sold 30 million copies) even though it is useless due to only being usable with the 3DS, Rii U, and the 2DS.

Trivia

  • The reason why the game looks horrible is because it had a rushed development since the game was worked on last minute due to the developers working on Super Smash Blox. U for the Bloxtendo Rii U.
  • The main character (Pit)'s 3D model is taken from the 2006 fighting game, Super Smash Blox. Brawl.
  • According to the game files, the game is not supposed to be taken seriously.
  • What is so ironic about the game's failure is that it was one of the most anticipated games of 2011, because gamers thought it was going to be good. (considering that this was the first Kid Icarus game in nearly 20 years (the last game before this one was released in 1993, 18-19 years before this game was released.)
  • There were plans for this game to be released in Latin Bloxmerican and Bloxish countries, but the controversy surrounding the game containing a virus caused these plans to be scrapped by Bloxtendo.
    • Though, the builds for the translation of the game to Bloxish are confirmed to still exist. However, Bloxtendo refused to release the builds. (there used to exist a video on BloxTube where the Bloxish translation of the game was shown but the video only had 900 views before the uploader privated the video due to a copyright strike from Bloxtendo.)
