Julian Cross (born November 2, 1947) is a Robloxian actor, film producer, and occasional screenwriter. He is best known for his performances in science fiction and action films throughout the 1970s and 1980s, including leading roles in Gamma Vortex (1983), Nocturne Drive (1997), The Iron Conduit (1978), and Solar Dominion (1985). Recognized for his distinctive deep voice and stoic on-screen presence, Cross became one of the most recognizable faces in Robloxian genre cinema during his peak years.

In addition to his acting work, Cross has occasionally worked behind the scenes as a producer and script advisor. Although he retired from acting in 1996, his films have remained popular within Robloxia’s retro film fan communities, and he continues to make appearances at conventions and retrospectives.

Early life and education

Julian Cross was born in Bleatale, a mid-sized city in the state of North Bloxifornia, on November 2, 1947. His father, Clarence Cross, was a railway inspector, and his mother, Edith Cross (née Parnell), worked as a schoolteacher. Cross attended Brickhaven Central High School, where he developed an interest in performing arts through school plays and local theater productions. After graduating in 1965, he enrolled at the University of Robloxia in Bloxburg, majoring in drama and film studies. During his time at university, Cross appeared in several student film projects and regional stage performances. He credited actor Gordon Vexley, known for his role in the 1959 adventure film Mariners of the Void, as one of his early influences.

Career

Film debut and early work

Cross made his professional film debut in 1970 with a supporting role in the crime thriller Redline District, directed by Malcom Varrow. Though the film received little attention, Cross's performance earned him minor roles in several action and exploitation films throughout the early 1970s. Notable among these was Night Circuit (1973), a dystopian thriller that later gained cult status.

Breakthrough and science fiction roles

In 1978, Cross gained widespread recognition with his starring role as Colonel Dane Merrick in The Iron Conduit, an action-heavy war drama set in a fictionalized Robloxian territory. The film's success led to a series of leading roles in science fiction and fantasy features, genres in which he would remain active throughout the 1980s. One of his most memorable performances came in Gamma Vortex (1983), where he portrayed rogue physicist Dr. Jonas Varrick. The film, directed by Lionel Hargrove, combined practical effects and early digital compositing, and became a cult favorite in later years. Cross’s portrayal of the morally conflicted scientist was widely praised by contemporary critics. Further notable roles included Solar Dominion (1985), a space opera in which he played Admiral Raston Keldar, and Rift Sector 9 (1987), a thriller set in a quarantined research colony.

Later career and retirement

By the early 1990s, Cross’s appearances in major films had declined, though he continued to work in smaller independent productions and television movies. He also served as an executive producer for the 1993 mystery thriller Echo Lane, directed by Mira Lawson. In 1996, after completing his final film role in the sci-fi horror feature Core Breach, Cross announced his retirement from acting. In subsequent years, he occasionally participated in film festival panels and retrospectives, particularly those focusing on 1980s Robloxian cinema.

Personal life

Cross has remained largely private about his personal life. He married costume designer Lena Worth in 1979; the couple divorced in 1987. He has one son, Daniel Cross, born in 1981, who works as a documentary filmmaker. As of 2025, Cross resides in the city of Chattanooga, and remains active in local community arts programs.
