On the early morning of January 26, 2024, severe to destructive floods affected the Robloxity metropolitan area. Heavy rainfall, exedding four hours in duration, resulted from a low-pressure system that stalled over the city, causing significant water damage and widespread disruption. However, because of the amount of rain, floods significantly struck towns that were not above ground. Combined with winds as high as 40 mph and the lack of evacuations, water from nearby rivers travelled onto land, flooding low-come towns and areas.
The result of the floodings caused major evacuations throughout half of the Robloxity metropolitan area and those that were in low-come areas were forced to get out and head to the city. However, because of a lack of warnings and alerts, over 500 people were caught in the midst of the flood. Subways trains within the metropolitan area were delayed or cancelled, before shutting down for the rest of the day, due to a high risk of water travelling underground throughout tunnels. Schools were closed for the remainder of Friday and from Monday to Thursday.
Meteorological synopsis
On January 23, 2024, a low-pressure system developed on the East Coast of the United States of Robloxia concurrently with a severe thunderstorm near Robloxity. Within 24 hours, the thunderstorm rapidly intensified, reaching estimated wind gusts of 50-60 mph. By January 25, heavy rainfall was widespread across numerous counties. The low-pressure system subsequently absorbed part of the storm, causing a deceleration. The National Weather Service updated the risk to Moderate to Serve by 11:00 p.m. on January 25, forecasting gusts exceeding 60 mph in some areas and continued heavy rainfall.
The late night of January 26 saw widespread heavy rainfall. By early morning, the storm had resumed its movement and had left the city by 12:00 p.m., thanks to a high-pressure system that caused the storm to draft away from stalling on top of it.
Impact
By January 25, at 8:00 p.m., a thunderstorm was reported throughout the Robloxity metropolitan and surrounding areas. Heavy rainfall was reported primarily in the Robloxity metropolitan area, with some reporting more than 7 inches and others up to 12 inches. The rain resulted in one of Robloxity's highest rainfall totals in over a century.
Rivers in neighboring counties began to flood, and within minutes, due to the massive amount of water on the river, the water began to rise and overflow. This causes the river to overflow and destroy trees before wreaking havoc on nearby towns. Several warnings and alerts were issued ahead of time for the expected impacted towns, but no evacuation was announced hours before the event, leading citizens to believe that the floods were moderate. Houses that were caught in the flood were severely damaged, with some reported to be broken in half. Within hours, the flooding destroyed homes and caused a massive power outage that affected nearly all cities and half of Robloxity.
