Itupali

Itupali is a Polybloxian language of the Telamon-Bluenesian languages ​​group, spoken primarily in southern Manakapa and the Little Islands. According to the 2020 census, the language is spoken by 2 million people.

History

The Itupali language was created from a mixture of Ancient Manakapian and Polybloxian languages, which spread to the lands of present-day Cracatau. In this way, in the 12th century, the Itupali subdialect was created (named after the medieval principality). Over time, the subdialect transformed into a dialect cluster, and in the 16th century, in terms of Ro-Portuguese and Aqualian culture, a new language was created, separated from Old Telamonian. After the creation of the Kingdom of Manakapa, the Itupali language became the official language of the province. In the 18th century, this language began to enjoy popularity in the Little Islands, where, combined with Bluenesian accents, a new Itupali dialect was created. During the so-called Rogaulian Captivity, this language was the language of the peasantry in the province of Cracatau (the nobility spoke Telamonian). Severe repression and displacement caused the language to lose popularity, and it only returned in the 1920s. At that time, clandestine student organizations in Cracatau and Luuluu used Itupali so that no one would understand what the activists were saying when they were being wiretapped. When the republic was proclaimed in 1941, Itupali was included on the list of over 600 official languages. It then flourished in the 1950s and 1960s, when the number of speakers of the language increased from 400,000 to 1,500,000.
