Hurricane Austin was a powerful Category 5 hurricane that made a devastating landfall in Hinds Harbor in Hinds, Romaryland on January 29, 2022, 8:09 PM (UTC).
Meteorological Synopsis
The hurricane started from the Primary Cyclone Developing Area (PCDA) and became Tropical Depression One. After finding more favorable conditions, it strengthened into Tropical Storm Austin, with winds at 42 miles per hour. Austin moved by the Bloxington Ocean and passed by Briggs Sea. After passing by Briggs Sea, it became a Category 1 hurricane at 80 mph winds. Shortly after becoming a hurricane, Austin went through an eyewall replacement cycle and weakened to a tropical storm. After completing it, Austin rapidly intensified into a Category 3 major hurricane at 119 mph winds. The system fluctuated in intensity and became a Category 4 at 141 mph winds. it soon peaked with winds of 157 mph (253 km/h) and a pressure of 923 millibars as it made landfall in Hinds Harbor. After landfall, it stalled and started to weaken due to upwelling. Austin went down to a Category 1 hurricane. Austin started fluctuating between 103 miles per hour (Category 2 intensity) and Category 3 intensity about three times. Eventually, it brushed by the coast of Hinds and went on to weaken into a tropical storm and became an extratropical storm with winds of 70 mph. By that time, the Robloxia Hurricane Center had issued the final advisory before it impacted mainland Hinds.
