Granderoton is a city in west Bloxalberta and is the regional hub of Northwest and West Bloxalberta. It is about 312 km away from the city of Bloxedmonton. It is surrounded by West Birchland County.

It was known to be the 7th largest city in Bloxalberta having a total population of 68,982 people in the 2021 census. It is also one of Bloxalberta's fast growing communtities.

It adopted the Grassy and Come Along motto due to the vast grass and the tourist/movers/visitors hesding to the city.

History

It was known as Fort L'herbe (fort the grass in Rogaulian) in 1899 until fur traders settled in the area. In 1905, the town banned fur trade and moved the fur trade to the Peace River.

1911 is when the major Birchy Trail was built (now Bloxalberta Highway 28) connects to the area, leading to settlers from Fort Hedson to increase settlement to the area, The area got it's post office in the old fur trade post, and Granderoton was incorporated as a village in 1918.

Since the trails were connected to the Birchy Trail, it caused the population to increase to 3,292. It incorporated as a town in 1922.

The Fraserville Railway crosses the town in 1931, increasing the population to 6.6% (9,881). A situation happened after Birchy Trail was on wildfire from a heat dome which caused major pauses to the population. Gas started getting extracted in 1938, and the gravel road Bloxalberta Highway 12 was met in 1941.

In 1958, it was incorporated as a city, due to its population overpassing 21,000. Ro-Tolko Mill Industries was added in 1969.

The city became a fast growing city in the 2005s going from 36,982 to 58,162. The population did a slight population increase again in 2017.

Climate

The climate of the city is a humid continental climate and subartic climate. Winters in Granderoton are relatively cold, hitting -36ºC or even higher. Hot days can go up to 29ºC or above. Precipitation occasionaly happens during June, July, and August. Rain sometimes flooded the area, happening sometimes July. The highest snow has been about 134 cm during a large blizard.

July is the peak year of thunderstorm activity, Supercells and other types of these thunderstorms are highly common in this month. Severe weather activity is rare but highly common. Tornadoes are rare in Granderoton, but the known only one was a F4 (EF3 in enhanced fujita, had signifant damage) that struck northern Granderoton.
