G.E.A.R.S (standing for Greatly Enormous Armored Robots) is an animated TV-14 sci-fi action television series created by John Felix and produced by Bigtime Animation, Lucky Clover Studios, and Hardy Animation Productions, and written by Ronald Cazan, Annie Dell, and Natasha Grace. The series mainly follows G.E.A.R.S, a series of mobile suit robots produced by the organization G.U.A.R.D. and are used to protect the cosmos from the Sentinels. Along with the mechas, they also have pilots, who control the robot using Nerval Suits while in the cockpit. The series partly focuses on the lives of G.U.A.R.D. staff and the pilots, who must resolve their problems throughout the series. The show includes the voices of David Rochelle, Cassie Winich, Amery Kat, Jaden Milo, Nathan Diamond, Emilio Ys, Millie Winslow, Cary Kamilio, Mike Judas, Casandra Annes, Henry Dutch, Yune Megan, Drake Wells, Josh Kallen, and Marga Shilo with Janet Ennard and Kelly Small.

Green-lit in 1987 and began production in 1988, G.E.A.R.S premiered on December 24, 1989, 8 days before its debut release. It was inspired by the Neo-Japanese mecha anime genre, which was started by the series Robo-Rangers from 1977. The show aired for 420 episodes, 12 specials, and 35 seasons before premiering the series finale on December 31, 2025. It received praise for its animation, voice acting, storyline, story arcs, setting, worldbuilding, character development, characters, and art. Although it was mostly criticized for its comedy, foreshadowing, and music (mid-series seasons). It had sparked multiple controversies over the years, often by its dark humor, graphic imagery and inappropriate content.

Worldbuilding (Setting)

The show takes place in the Robloxian Solar System, where a post-apocalyptic version of Roblox sits. An organization known as G.U.A.R.D. orbits the fallen planet, attempting to restore it while also defending it from otherworldly creatures known as Sentinels, who try to erase the existence of Roblox and its inhabitants. A rival organization called S.T.O.R.M. aims to disrupt the goals of G.U.A.R.D. and assist the Sentinels in their objective. The Roblox Sun also is a threat, as it occasionally sends legions of fiery creatures, Solar Flares, who devour any vulnerable space object. On the planet of Roblox, survivors strive to stay alive, constantly awaiting the restoration of their home.

Outside of the Robloxian Solar System, a gigantic extraterrestrial entity known as Mother constantly spawns Sentinels, with the help of a star called Father. Along with that, other branches of G.U.A.R.D. attempt to restore and protect other ruined space objects. Due to the constant reproduction of their enemies, G.U.A.R.D. produces robots abbreviated as G.E.A.R.S as a defense against S.T.O.R.M. and the Sentinels.

Cast (Characters)

For the first two seasons, we have four main protagonists, which are: Jude Japinsky, a selfish yet sympathetic pilot that eventually ends up joining S.T.O.R.M. and becomes an overarching villain, Crest Nux, a lazy low lifer pilot who always flirts with the female pilots, Ava Gauf, a flawed but loving pilot whose parents are dead, Kamilia Wick, a hard-headed bad-mouthed pilot with a huge ego and is rarely kind. All of them return in later seasons, either as mentors or as cameos (repeats for all casts of characters). With the four main characters, there are their friends and the G.U.A.R.D. staff. During Season 1, we encounter the Rhodes sisters, who are a reappearing duo within the series. One of the staff, Kia Baio, is the supervisor and guardian of the four G.E.A.R pilots. A friend of Kia, Allie, is also an employee, working as commander of the pilots. Many other characters are included, such as Eddie, Ina, Mal, George, and more.

The current G.E.A.R.S included in these seasons are the Blue Battalion, Red Ranger, Golden Guardian, and the Violet Volt. Each of these robots are armed with equipment to combat the Sentinels. They are nearly identical to one another, only contrasting by color and equipment. Later G.E.A.R.S are granted different designs from their partners.

The next four seasons include the iconic Kavinski triplets, Emma, Selma, and Jarra. Although triplets, the three have different personalities and style choices that make it easy to tell them apart. Emma braids her hair and often wears her orange hat, while Selma dyes her hair blue and wears earrings, and Jarra chooses a messy and unorganized style. They are assigned their robots based on their personality; Purple Penetrator for strategy (Emma), Green Gladiator for skill (Selma), and Cyan Challenger for bravery (Jarra). In some episodes, they resort to using the old G.E.A.R.S because of damage or malfunctions. Emma and Jarra eventually die in the Season 6 finale from an ambush by the 22nd Sentinel. Selma stays for several episodes in Season 7 before retiring.

In seasons 7-11, a team of 5 was used; Aaron, Benedict, Carrie, Daniel, and Elisa. The pilots are mentored by Selma, who gets significantly injured by the Space Pyramid in episode 6 of season 7. The G.E.A.R.S correspond to the names of their assigned pilots; Agar (Aaron), Belthar (Benedict), Cryon (Carrie), Drellos (Daniel), and Elyrium (Elisa). Designs and equipment of the G.E.A.R.S vary on their pilots' personalities. New G.U.A.R.D. staff were added, such as Prof. Moor, Cap. Milo, and Ashley and Kyle, the new supervisors of the pilots.

In the year 20XX, a nuclear world war begins. An organization is formed called Genuinely Underrated Amazingly Rad Defenders (G.U.A.R.D.), founded by the United Nations of Eurobloxia. G.U.A.R.D. is used to develop powerful weaponry and tools, while also providing resources to their allies. A few decades after the beginning, in 30XX, the U.N.E. and G.U.A.R.D. facilities are infiltrated and demolished by international forces, leaving only few survivors alive. President Toter Held and others decide to build the foundation of the second G.U.A.R.D. headquarters, however, shortly after it was completed, nuclear bombs struck the entire planet simultaneously. With the combined blast power of the explosions, Roblox was turned into a nuclear wasteland.
