Queen Otuia, born as Otuia Olga Funateria, was the Queen of Ro Tonga (Ronga) from 1933 to 1959, when she died.

Early life

She was born surrounded by her family on November 4th, 1917, on Bloxutla. Her father Rōland II was king of Ro Tonga.

Otuia was fluent in Rongan, Robloxian, and Neo-Japanese. Later, when she was a queen, she learned some Talamana.

Her father's death

When Rōland II died in 1933 from suicide, she reacted to her father's death. She cried, saying ʻoluīu lord Ōu Wanaʻō Ua toī fōʻi Waī lōʻu wāvā, what means in Ro Tongan please Lord I want my father back.

Queen of Ro Tonga (Ronga)

She was the first female monarch of Ro Tonga (Ronga) to take formal control on the island. Her power was however slightly limited by the Bloxians, who had previously made the island their protectorate. In 1940s, Ro Tonga ruled by Otuia joined Roblox War II.

Family

In 1930s, Otuia married Prince Willfuinta. They had five children:

  • Princess Rōlanda of Ro Tonga (1936-2009)
  • King Rōland III of Ro Tonga (1937-2006), king of Ro Tonga from 1959 to 2006.
  • Princess Matika of Ro Tonga (1939-2018)
  • King Rōland IV of Ro Tonga (1948-present)
  • Prince Lawerkōw of Ro Tonga (1951-present)

Before marrying Willfuinta, Otuia was in a relationship with Harrokulao Funoitua, with whom she had an illegitimate daughter, Onika Tuiona (1934-1950).

Death

Queen Otuia died on a heart disease on December 12, 1959. After her death, national mourning for seven days was announced. The throne of Ro Tonga was inherited by Otuia's oldest son, Rōland III.
