Puchi Eva: Evangelion@Game, also known in Robloxia as Petit Eva or Petit Eva Online is a discontinued Neo-Japanese social MMO video game that was first released in Neo-Japan on January 12, 2002 and later in 2003 in Robloxia under the name "Petit Eva: Evangelion@Game".

It was popular in Robloxia between 2006 and 2011 due to the at-the-time exploding popularity of anime, which attracted some anime fans and casuals alike due to it's art style and because it (later in it's lifespan) let robloxians connect both their LifeSync and E-Doger accounts to their Petit Eva accounts.

History

Development

The game was first put through Beta mode in May 1996, this beta version was originally released only for the Neo-Japanese market on the website "PuchiEva.co.njp", which was (and still is) owned by Ro-HAL Laboratory, this version, which is known as "Version 00.00.00" was not in 3D and was instead a 16bit game.

It wouldn't be until Build 00.00.92 (released September 1998) where the game official became a 3D MMO instead of a 16bit one, possibly because of the popularity of 3D at the time.

4 years after, the Beta version of the game was closed and the finished product was released to the public in January 2002 in Neo-Japan and it was marketed as a MMO for all ages.

Distribution in the United States

In February 2003, ReimuGames announced that the game would be exported to Robloxia under the new title, "Petit Eva: Evangelion@School" (Petit Eva for short) and that the game was going to be released later that month, however; the game's release date was changed to May due to some errors on the translation and code.

Eventually, the game was released in Robloxia on May 27, 2003 as a subpage on ReimuGames' websites, in fact, it wasn't until October 2004 when the game and it's servers would move to a separate website (play.petit-eva.com).

Discontinuation

In 2018, it was announced that the game would be discontinued permanently due to the low amount of players (at the time of the game's announcement, there were approximately 3,000 active players instead of the previous 12,000 active players in 2011) and because the developers were busy working on other projects.

In Neo-Japan, the game was shut down on November 2018, while in Robloxia it would be shut down 6 months after, before then, Robloxians were not allowed to create a new account and the "connect to E-Doger" and "Connect to LifeSync" functions stopped working completely.

Private Servers

After the discontinuation of the original game, many fans began trying to make their own versions of it using the game’s source code, which is what lead to the first unofficial revivals (private servers), 2 of the most notable ones being Shin Puchi Eva (Translation: New Petit Eva), launched May 2019 by Mikuru Satou and Petit Eva Rewritten, launched in January 2020 by TheWorstGamer84.

Both of these servers are considered to be the same, however Petit Eva Rewritten is considered to be extremely strict when it comes to what the user can say in it, as words such as “Bitch” and any cuss word are often tagged and if said various times, will lead to the user getting banned.
