HOURS is a single-player action video game developed by creator and owner superrun100 (also known as SentientSupper). The game costs 30 Robux to buy, and as of April 26, 2026, HOURS has accumulated over 43 million downloads.

"Seize control of time itself to break through waves of foes in this singleplayer hack and slash with roguelite elements. All returns to nothing when you die. Your actions may be meaningless, but will you push forward and reach the end in spite of that?"

Gameplay

HOURS is an arena wave-based survival game that combines hack and slash combat with roguelite progression, centered around time-manipulation mechanics.

Players select one of fifteen playable characters known as Hosts, with only the Invader available at the start of a different device. Each Host possesses a unique ability set. At the beginning of every new area, players can upgrade their Host, unlocking passive stat boosts or entirely new skills. Additionally, players are granted a choice of Tempos—special abilities that manipulate time, enemy behavior, and environmental rules to aid in combat.

A standard run consists of three randomized areas, each containing multiple enemy waves and concluding with a boss fight. The game employs permanent death; upon defeat, all run-specific progress is reset, requiring players to rely on learned strategies and adaptive Tempo selection for subsequent attempts.

Difficulties

HOURS currently has four primary difficulty settings, with an additional fifth difficulty soon to be mentioned in this article. Each difficulty other than the speedrun modifier is named after a unit of time.

  • Weeks: The game's very easy mode. Designed for learning core mechanics.
    • The game is so very easy in this mode that one could use it as a sandbox for the harder difficulties in the game, such as testing builds against enemies, even though it cannot guarantee that a certain test build can defeat an enemy that easily in the sandbox.
  • Hours: The game's easy mode. Standard introductory challenge with moderate enemy scaling.
  • Minutes: The game's normal mode. The baseline difficulty intended for the standard experience.
  • Seconds: The game's hard mode. Enemies stagger, deal 2x more damage, and have 2x more HP.

In addition, a speedrun mode, Hourglass, is available. The game's difficulty does not change, but the game actively logs completion times which can then be submitted to competitive play and speedrun websites on the game.

DLCs/Donations

HOURS features one DLC and one donation:

  • HOURS: Hands of Time - This DLC, costing 400 Robux, allows players to unlock the second half of the Tempos, "overclock" a Tempo (boosting their power) by beating one session with said Tempo, "turbocharge" their Hosts (allows you to get all three upgrades at the beginning of a stage) by beating a session with the host, and allowing the player to unlock the additional Host named the Dreamer. This DLC, when purchased with Donation, unlocks the Donation Cheat Menu.
  • Donation - This donation costs 1,000 Robux and is intended to serve as an overtip to the game studio. It does not change the appearance of the game unless the player has bought the Hands of Time DLC.

Purchasing both DLC and the donation unlocks the Donation Cheat Menu, which is intended to be used for experimental gameplay and do some silly things within the game. This game is anti-pay-to-win as neither the DLC nor the Donation Cheat Menu is needed to complete the game. However, none of them accesses more lore either.

Hosts

The Invader

"Having the strongest desire to possess, yet possessing nothing of its own. The intruder from another world journeys on."

The InvaderIconInvader is one of the 15 Hosts featured in HOURS. The player automatically unlocks them at the start of the game (Learn more at the Invader page).

Description

The Invader is a melee-oriented host granted to all new players at the start of a new game. They focus on fast, successive attacks to eliminate enemies at close range.

Upon reaching Phase 2 of Light Beneath Closed Eyes, the game reveals their true name: Clock Strings.

Appearance

The Invader appears as a green humanoid with three neon-green horns protruding from their head. Their face displays their in-game icon, which also represents their horns and blades. Invader wields two blade-like appendages extending from their hands, resembling khopeshes.

Playstyle

The Invader serves as the burst damage attacker among the Hosts. They deal rapid, high cumulative damage and can recover health through their attacks. They benefit from a "hit and run" playstyle, which allows them to attack when openings are presented and tear foes to shreds.

Statistics

  • HP: 100
  • Speed in studs per second: 16
  • Passive: Heals 0.33 HP per second.
  • Slash (M1): Slashes forward, dealing 8 damage. Has a very short range, requiring the player to be near your opponent to land consecutive hits. Cycles through a combo sequence.
  • Spin Slash (M2): Performs four consecutive spins while moving forward, dealing 4 damage per hit. This ability can be used while moving. Best effective against group of enemies for crowd control.
  • Dash Slash (Shift): Dashes forward, dealing 24 damage + stagger the opponent. When aimed upward at the correct distance, Dash Slash can be followed up by the other attacks, as Invader ends the dash right near the opponent.
  • Empower (Q): Activates a state that increases damage by 50% and grants lifesteal. The blades glow and leave a green trail. While active, melee attacks heal the player for 25% of the damage dealt, and the ability’s duration is refreshed with each hit.

The Prophet

"Enslaved by fate, he foresees, and makes it true. With dull eyes, he looks forward to the end of the line, after which the rest is blank."

The ProphetIconProphet is the second host and one of the 15 featured in HOURS. He is unlocked by beating the first stage of the game, Peacock Peaks. (Learn more at the Prophet page).

Description

The Prophet is a Host based around heavy attacks. He is an extremely slow Host, but makes it up for heavy singular hits on single targets to deal incredible damage.

Upon reaching Phase 2 of Light Beneath Closed Eyes with Prophet, the game shows his true name, Doomdestine.

Appearance

The Prophet has a blue color scheme and wields a large light-spear. He appears to be wearing a crown of some kind which resembles a classic Robloxia hat known as the Domino Crown.

The spear has a crystal embedded on his head and has a gray handle. His icon resembles two capital letter "I"['s], resembling the irises all over his body (although they differ.)

Playstyle

The Prophet is considered the fastest tank Host. His attacks appear slow, and he has blind spots in front of him, but his massive damage compensates. With his ability to perform devastating attacks in relatively quick succession, Prophet has the potential to inflict immense damage through combos given he is provided with the right upgrades. He can consume up to 10 charges by stabbing and use the consumed charges to regenerate himself.

Statistics

  • HP: 100
  • Speed in studs per second: 10
  • Passive: Heal 0.33 HP per second.
  • Stab (M1): Stabs the target with its spear, dealing 20 damage. Also replenishes one charge of Regeneration.
  • Heavy Strike (M2): After a 1.5 second windup, performs a Heavy Strike, dealing 100 damage. Heavy Strike requires the enemy to stay in range to hit. It should be used in tandem with a Tempo for maximum effect.
  • Dash (Shift): Quickly dashes forward. Has two charges. Prophet's main move for mobility. Dash will move Prophet in the direction he is facing.
  • Regeneration (Q): After a one second windup, consumes all charges and heals itself by 3 HP every 0.5 seconds for each charge consumed. Prophet's main source of healing. Charges can be gained with Stab or through various upgrades.

The Witness

"His mind unable to hold any more, he sees, yet does not witness. He shall become the rain that will extinguish the dawn."

The WitnessIconWitness is the third Host and one of the fifteen Hosts featured in HOURS. It is obtained by completing Downcast Days, either through the InvaderIconInvader or the ProphetIconProphet (Learn more at the Witness page).

Description

The Witness is mainly a wild card and is generally an all-rounder on the battlefield, with a mix of range and his versatility from obtainable moves, though he is initially a defense-focused melee attacker.

Upon reaching Phase 2 of Light Beneath Closed Eyes with Witness, the game reveals his true name: Rain Over Dawn.

Appearance

The Witness is certainly one of the most detailed characters design-wise. He appears as a white and grey humanoid with red eyes on his body, primarily on his head. He also features two red loops on his shoulders and two grey on his shoulder. His weapon is a ukulele with electric properties, the ukulele itself being white and gray, with neon red strings on it.

Playstyle

For the most part, the Witness is a decent generalist. Being able to pack a punch and stun enemies with a breeze can easily make him a very useful unit on the battlefield. His base abilities are pretty standard and can be used for all situations. With each upgrade, his effectiveness increases and can lead to an easy victory.

Statistics

  • HP: 100
  • Speed in studs per second: 12
  • Passive (Conduit): Casting an ability reduces all cooldowns by 10% of the ability's cooldown.
  • Bash (M1): Bashes its ukulele, dealing 16 damage and inflicting small knockback. A 4-hit combo each with a slightly different direction of knockback.
  • Kick (M2): Kicks at a short range forward, dealing 10 damage and inflicting stagger. Recharges after 4 seconds. Used to interrupt enemy attacks.
  • Shield (Shift): Gain a 25 HP shield that absorbs damage and prevents most negative effects for 4 seconds. Recharges after 10 seconds.
  • Smite (Q): Strikes the enemy with a lightning bolt, dealing 40 damage in an area and inflicting stun for 2 seconds. Recharges after 12 seconds.

The Artisan

"An existence born of itself, weaved from a string of ones and zeros. Nobody knows what thoughts lies within its head."

The ArtisanIconArtisan is the fourth Host one of the fifteen Hosts featured in HOURS. It can be obtained by beating Mirai Mirror using any Host (Learn more at the Artisan page).

Description

The Artisan is a Host which mainly relies on its abilities to summon things to fight for itself. It has few direct attacks and a reliable parry, but its large list of possible moves and its versatile late-game playstyle allows it to be a flexible offensive or defensive character.

Upon reaching Phase 2 of Light Beneath Closed Eyes, the game reveals its true name: Myth-A-Weave.

Appearance

The Artisan is a robot with grey and yellow coloration and wields a disk-like weapon (called its "Weaver") for both attack and defense. It has what appears to be pistons on its torso and shoulders that pop out while Auto Repairs is active. Its icon displays two vertical rows of three dots in between two vertical parallel lines, resembling the Artisan's face.

Playstyle

The Artisan is an unusual host which has decent offensive capability on its own, but can create minions and turrets to fight in its stead. It has a balanced playstyle, with many obtainable moves primarily focused around acting as a summoner while using physical combat to quickly finish off injured enemies.

Statistics

  • Health: 100
  • Speed in studs per second: 14
  • Passive (Auto Repairs): Regenerates 2 health per second when health is below 35%. This effect stops when health is at or above 35% of the player's maximum health. This is approximately 6 times stronger than the host's normal passive regeneration, which heals at 0.33 HP per second.
  • Slice (M1): Slices the Weaver forward, dealing 12 damage per hit. Can be held to initiate multiple slashes. The Host's main melee attack, used mainly to finish off enemies. High damage output, but be wary of the move's endlag as it makes Artisan vulnerable during the process.
  • Parry (M2): Blocks attacks directly in front of the Artisan for 0.25 seconds, dealing 5 damage and staggering melee attackers. Block time is reset upon initiating successful parries. Also has 0.25 seconds of endlag. This is mainly used to defend against heavy attacks.
  • Turret (Shift): Build a stationary turret with 40 health that fires 4 bullets at enemies per second, dealing 3 damage each for 20 seconds. 20 second cooldown. The turret loses 2 HP per second, despawning after 20 seconds. Takes 0.5 seconds to build. Mainly used as a source of damage or as bait. The turret cannot be healed.
  • Barrage (Q): Fires a stream of bullets at an enemy, each dealing 3 damage. Fires 8 bullets per second. Recharges a bullet every 0.5 seconds and the Host is capable of holding up to 20 bullets. Must be fully charged to activate as channeling interrupts the cooldown. Can be activated again to retain remaining charges.

Development

HOURS was the debut project by developer superrun100, initially created as an experimental prototype to test combat and progression systems for his then-popular game called OVERRUN. The developer has publicly stated intentions to transition future projects to other gaming platforms, making significant future updates to the Ro-Steam version unlikely. Details regarding subsequent development can be tracked on the developer's Ro Reddit profile.
