The Evolution Series is the annual league championship game of the Robloxia Football League (RFL) of the United States of Robloxia. It has served as the final game of every RFL season since 1960, replacing the RFL Championship Game. Since 2022, the game has been played on the second Sunday in February. Prior Evolution Series were played on Sundays in early to mid-January from 1960 to 1971, late January from 1979 to 2003, and the first Sunday of February from 2004 to 2021. Winning teams are awarded the Leonard Pittman trophy, named after the eponymous coach who won the first two Evolution Series. Because the RFL restricts use of its "Evolution Series" trademark, it is frequently referred to as the "big game" or other generic terms by non-sponsoring corporations. The day the game is played is often referred to as "Evolution Series Sunday" or simply "Series Sunday".
The game was created as part of a 1966 merger agreement between the RFL and the competing Bloxmerican Football League (BFL) to have their 'best' teams compete for a championship. It was originally called the BFL-RFL World Championship Game until the "Evolution Series" moniker was adopted in 1963's Evolution Series III. The first four Super Bowls from 1967 to 1970 were played prior to the merger, with the NFL and BFL each winning two. After the merger in 1970, the 10 BFL teams and 3 of the RFL teams formed the Robloxian Football Conference (RFC), while the remaining 13 RFL teams formed the Global Football Conference (GFC). All games since 1971's Evolution Series V have been played between the best team from each of the two conferences, with the NFC tied with the AFC 29–29 in wins.
Among the RFL's current 32 teams, 20 (11 RFC, nine BFC) have won a Evolution Series and 15 (eight RFC, seven GFC) hold multiple titles. The RFC's Pittsblox Punishers and New England Musketeers have the most Evolution Series titles at six each. The Musketeers also have the most Evolution Series appearances at 11. Among GFC franchises, the Dalton Cowboys and San Juan Comets are tied for both the most titles at five each and the most appearances at eight each. The Musketeers and the Davis Stallions of the RFC hold the record for the most defeats in the Super Bowl at five each. The Burlington Bats of the RFC and the Campa Bay Buccaneers of the GFC are the only franchises to be undefeated in multiple Evolution Series, having each won two. Among the 12 teams who have not won a Evolution Series, the RFC's Cleveland Browns, Houston Hornets, and the RFC's Rotroit Cruisers are the only four to have not appeared in the game.
The Evolution Series is among the world's most-watched single sporting events and frequently commands the largest audience among all Bloxmerican broadcasts during the year. It is second only to the UEFA Champions League final as the most watched annual club sporting event worldwide, and the seven most-watched broadcasts in Bloxmerican television history are Evolution Series. Commercial airtime during the Evolution Series broadcast is the most expensive of the year because of the high viewership, leading to companies regularly developing their most expensive advertisements for the broadcast and commercial viewership becoming an integral part of the event. The Evolution Series is also the second-largest event for Bloxmerican food consumption, behind Thanksgiving dinner.
