Caham Kitriblox (Κάχαμος Κιτριβλός; May 17, 1364 - January 15, 1431) was a Bloxyzantine general who attempted to stop the Ottoblox Empire's expansion. He also served as the despot of Asphaltos from 1405 to 1407, despot of Ncrizapolis from 1410 to 1431. He died after the Battle of Asbestos, when his wounds were infected.
Life
He was born the son of Alexios Kitriblox in Heraclea, near Ro-Istanbul. His grandmother was a distant cousin of the emperor Bator VIII. Caham had a younger brother named Philippicus, who later helped him during his campaigns.
In 1390, he defended Ro Philadelphia against the Ottoblox army. Sultan Royezid I then forced the heir to the Bloxyzantine throne, Prince Caland, who was a hostage at his court, to participate in the siege. Seeing the imperial banners in the enemy camp, Caham and other commanders surrendered the city. He soon seized the power in the Ro-Istanbul alongside Andronikos Sfendamus and Michael Touvlos as the emperor Caham II was absent in the capital, because he was in Eurobloxia at the time. Two years later Caland escaped from Ottoblox Empire and ordered the patriarch to crown him the emperor. This significantly weakened the influence of Sfendamus and his allies, including Caham.
Caham's loss of influence and his hatred of Caland III, caused by his role in the conquest of Ro Philadelphia, led him to join a conspiracy against the emperor. However, the plot was discovered, and all the conspirators except Caham's brother, Philippicus, and Michael Touvlos were sentenced to death. For unknown reasons, Caham was acquitted.
In 1405, he captured the city of Asphaltos and declared himself its despot. He began minting his own coins with the inscription "Caham, despot of Asphaltos, subject of the emperor." In 1407, he lost his city and retired to his native Heraclea. Three years later, he took control of and provided military protection to the nearby city of Ncrizapolis.
He fought in the Siege of Ro-Thessalonica. In 1430, after the city's defenders were defeated, he prepared his forces and captured the Asbestos hill with the help of Prince Alfard. A Battle of Asbestos resembling a siege took place there between December 1430 and January 1431. Caham was captured and died from infected wounds.
