The Broken Hill Nuclear Power Plant Disaster was a nuclear accident that occurred on December 5th, 1993 at the fourth reactor in Broken Hill nuclear power station (BHNPS) in Robloxia. This accident was caused by the temperature in the reactor exceeding its limits.
Backround
On the morning of December 5th, 1993, a group of 8 Robloxian scientists working at Broken Hill decided to use extra pressure and raise the temperature of the reactor and lower coolant to generate more power for Robloxity, which was a mere 43 minutes away. The city was having a winter festival and it required extra power. The lead of the scientific team, DevElofy decided to raise the temperature even higher, approximately at 1000 degrees Celsius. DevElofy sent in a scientist, Mox5231, to insert a rod into a new addition of the reactor, which was a massive machine with two poles which emit beams onto each other. Mox's task was to insert a rod manually due to a software glitch making the control rod insertion levels go down instead of up. When the rod was manually placed, disaster soon was about to strike.
The Broken Hill Disaster
When the rod was inserted, the energy levels, radiation, temperature, and pressure went high at a terrible rate, risking Mox's life. The other 7 scientists watched and promptly warned him to get away from the radioactive beam. The following is a transcript of the rod insertion.
DevElofy: The temperature is a bit more higher than it should be-I'm sure it's fine. Just insert the rod when it rolls in, got it?
Mox: Alright.
Warisam (scientist): Alright, it's coming up now. Insert it quickly and safely!
*Mox inserts the rod, which then starts the pressure and temperature to rise very quickly*
DevElofy: Mox, get away from the beam! Shutting down...
Warisam: Dear god, this isn't going to go well.
DevElofy: Attempted shutdown. Shutdown failure? It's not- it's not!
DevElofy: It's not shutting down! I repeat, IT'S NOT SHUTTING DOWN! *Screaming from all 8 scientists*
The beam eventually started to destroy the test room that it was in, causing the walls and roof to crumble. Mox swiftly exited the test chamber and exited the wing, leaving the other seven scientists to fend for themselves. Five out of eight scientists were killed initially. The surviving two (excluding Mox) escaped the facility via a destroyed maintenance tunnel. Hundreds of scientists and workers attempted to exit the building. However, the explosion from the beam caused many parts of the building to fall, not just on the ground but on other people.
The facility eventually started to sink into the ground from the weight of machines, making it collapse on the tunnels and basements underneath the first and second floors. Fortunately, DevElofy and Warisam survived the basement collapse. The radiation from the explosion also started to leak into rooms, and the temperature also started to make objects catch on fire, including the scientists inside. Many scientists also had their hair and body burnt, along with many rooms as a fire spread into the cafeteria.
The electrical system also burst, causing scientists and employees to practically go blind, not just because of darkness, but the electrical system literally burst lightbulbs, emitting a blinding light.
Aftermath
The city of Robloxity was notified of the disaster about 5 hours after the initial explosion. A lockdown was on alert for the area around the facility, which was fortunately a sparse and rural area. The metropolitan area was also put on lockdown as a whole, due to the radiation and temperature. Hazmat units came into the facility to contain chemical spills that also occurred in the facility due to the explosion. When DevElofy escaped the facility with a few others, he was put on trial for intentional mass destruction, and hundreds of counts of third-degree murder.
He was later given a sentence of 2 years rather than the original 10 years in prison after he convinced the judge that the facility's new reactor had been tested prior with the same properties enabled and a standard rod, different than the rod used. The rod used in the disaster was created with resources found from a meteorite that crashed a few weeks before the incident. Eventually, the plant safety manager and Nuclear Test Operation Manager was sued for 1.2 billion ROBUX.
