BloxyCloud

BloxyCloud is an online music distribution website. It is often used by lesser-known performers to share their work. For example, Blox Youth used Blox-Twitter links to BloxCloud to stream their latest album. Moby posts his latest singles here. When Beck decided to retire his outdated website and wanted a simple site based on high-quality content, he also switched to BloxyCloud. In Q3 2020, BloxyCloud reported its first ever profitable quarter with double-digit revenue growth and substantially reduced operating losses.

Fun Facts:

BloxyCloud had a €2.5 million Series A funding in April 2009.

By the end of 2016, BloxyCloud Pulse had over 100 million downloads.

BloxyCloud has grown to be one of the largest music streaming services reaching over 175 million monthly users Roblox-wide.

History

Launched in the capital of Ro-Sweden, BloxyCloud was founded in August 2007 in Ro-Berlin, Romarkia. Its founders are Alex Bloxman and musician Eric Wahlblox. The original idea was less daring - they just wanted to allow musicians to share music among themselves.

Later, the project grew into a tool that allows anyone to publish any audio recordings and helps musicians distribute their creations. Just a few months after launch, BloxyCloud began to compete with the dominant RoSpace as a platform where musicians could better communicate with and cater to their fans.

In a 2009 interview, co-founder Alex Bloxman said:

“Both of us (the founders) come from a music background and it was really tiring for us to work with people in that area - I mean simple things, sending songs to people privately, getting feedback, having conversations about that music. In the same way that RoFlickr is used for our photos, Bloxymeo for videos, we didn't have anything like that for our music.”

In May 2010, BloxyCloud announced one million contributors.

In 2011, BloxyCloud won an innovation award at the annual Eurobloxian Tech Tour Awards Dinner.

In 2013, Blox-Twitter said to plan a mobile music app using BloxyCloud service.

In 2016, BloxyCloud signed up Bloxversal Music and a subscription service came closer to reality.

In 2019, BloxyCloud announced an acquisition.

In 2020, BloxyCloud founders raised R$7.12 billion to bring subscription bikes to market.

In December 2021, BloxyCloud's CFO, Drew Bloxson, said the company was "on the verge of breaking even" and said the company expected to turn a net profit by 2023.

Function

One can store their own audio recordings on BloxyCloud, be it music or anything else. The saved files are then available to anyone and anywhere in Roblox via the Roternet. Another option is to use sounds from BloxyCloud in web presentations (embed directly into HTML code) or applications using the BloxyCloud API interface. This interface is used by several music search engines such as BloxyYouNeed.

The basic functions of BloxyCloud are easy: it shows the number of plays of a song, the number of users who have favorited it, and the number of downloads. If one likes a song, they can download it, usually in MP3 format. When playing back audio recordings, a graphical representation of the waveforms of the audio output is displayed, making it easy to jump to the part the user wants to listen to. One can also add comments directly to a specific moment in a song, and they will be displayed at that moment. The music search engine includes an extension that allows one to narrow down your selection to, for example, only remixes, covers or acoustic versions.
