History

Founding and Early Years

Bloxburg Today was founded on July 15, 2012, by local journalist and publisher Calvin Rowe, a former city council member and newspaper editor. Originally launched as a weekly print newspaper titled The Bloxburg Informer, the outlet initially focused on local politics and civic issues. In 2014, the newspaper rebranded as Bloxburg Today to reflect its transition into a daily digital format. The new name was chosen to appeal to a younger and more connected audience while preserving its focus on public accountability and transparency.

In 2016, the company relocated from its original office in West Bloxburg to a larger newsroom facility downtown. That same year, it introduced a live stream division to broadcast council meetings and community town halls.

Digital Expansion

By 2018, Bloxburg Today had become one of the most visited local news websites in Bloxburg Valley. The outlet partnered with various local schools and universities, including Northern Bloxburg Valley University and Bloxburg University, to provide journalism internships and media literacy workshops. Bloxburg Today also began publishing morning and evening news digests, launching its own mobile app in 2019.

In 2022, the outlet became the first local publication in the state to launch a dedicated civic data dashboard for public use, which includes open data on traffic, crime, environmental reports, and development permits. The dashboard was praised by civic leaders and academics for promoting public transparency.
