Azumanga Daioh: The Daiohwakening is a Neo-Japanese film that was released on September 8 2018, it is the first movie in the ADCU (Azumanga Daioh Cinematic Universe).
the film was directed by Haruhi Hiroyama and was produced by the Neo-Japanese company, Azumanga Productions. in Robloxia the film was distributed by Universal Pictures.
Production
Development
The film began development in 2006, around 4 years after the original Azumanga Daioh anime aired, a film director known as "Haruhi Hiroyama" approached Kiyohiko Azuma to make a live-action adaptation of the manga, in which was allowed by the latter.
anyways, not much would be known about the film until 2011 when it was announced that the film was in production under the title "Azumanga Daioh: The Really Long Movie", as it was originally meant to be 100 hours long, but a executive producer suggested the film be 11 hours long to not make the audience bored
in 2014, it was announced that the film was going to be released in 2018 under a new title, that title being "Azumanga Daioh: The Daiohwakening", which of course, ended up being the final title.
Casting
the film's casting director, Takumi Sakamoto initially began the casting auditions in 2008, in a 2019 interview in the Sakura Show, when Sakamoto was asked about the film's casting, he said something along the lines of this:
当初、この役には和泉法子さんをキャスティングする予定でしたが、彼女は映画に興味がないことがわかったので、地元のキャスティングクラスでオーディションを行い、大坂に外見がとても似ている山城ひかりさんを選ばなければなりませんでした。(English Translation: Initially, they had planned to cast Noriko Izumi for the role, but it turned out she had no interest in film, so they had to hold auditions at a local casting class and choose Hikari Yamashiro, who bore a strong physical resemblance to Osaka.)
at the end, Hikari Yamashiro was chosen for the role of Osaka, mainly because her appearence was mostly similar to Osaka, the film's main protagonist
Premise
The premise of this film is essentially the original Azumanga Daioh manga but with lots of differences, for example, the inappropiate jokes are replaced by edgy kid friendly humor.
