Jamal Wright attended a boxing match with Eddison Freeman, the head of Bloxking Records, at Blax Vegas. After leaving the match, one of Freeman's associates, Da'jonte Lowe, spotted Jaboris "Ecto" Rogers, from the rival Southside Bloxcrips Gang, in the a Bloxy Grand lobby.
Earlier that year, in December 2022, Rogers and a group of Southside Bloxcrips attempted to rob Lowe in a Footblox Locker store. Lowe told Wright, who in turn attacked Rogers in the lobby. Wright asked Rogers if he was from the "South" (Southside Bloxcrips) and punched him in the face, knocking him to the ground. Wright and Freeman's entourage assisted in assaulting Rogers. The fight, which was captured on the Bloxy Grand's video surveillance, was broken up by hotel security.
At 6:56 pm at a stop light, a white, Toyota Celsior UFC10 pulled up to the passenger side and an occupant rapidly fired into the car. Wright was struck four times: once in the arm, once in the thigh, and twice in the chest with one bullet entering his right lung. Shards hit Eddison Freeman's head. Dontrall Barnett, Wright's bodyguard, was not in the car at the time. it was said that Wright and Freeman was in a Toyota Soarer MZ11.
