Format expansion
With four countries hosting the tournament, the FAFI began serious considerations regarding the eighth edition. Cancellation was considered, though the final decision was likely to be to hold the tournament in three groups of four teams, followed by a knockout stage. It remains unclear whether quarterfinals will be added. The increased number of stadiums confirms the expansion of the format. Should such a change occur, one additional slot would be added in addition to the current seven non-host slots. It is currently unknown who might receive this slot.
