Summary

From January 3, 2026 to January 5, 2026, multiple police officers from LCSO and RCPD were shot and killed by unknown assailants. All casualties were spread across 4 shootings.

The First Shooting; January 3

At 17:30 on January 3rd, Deputy James Bruan of the LCSO requested for backup at the River City Department of Transportation Office. A man named Kenneth McKinon was laying there injured, with Bruan standing over him, assessing his injuries. Detective Sergeant Carl Leeson was the only LCSO supervisor near the scene, so he took point.

Leeson: "Bruan! What happened?"
Bruan: "Unsub collapsed when I was walking. I've already called in RCFR"

It was around this time where an unmarked RCPD SUV arrived. The driver, Special Assault Officer Jack Tomphson circled the block. More Deputies arrived to direct traffic. At 17:53, the first 10 shots rang out.

Leeson: "GET DOWN!"

Bruan is shot in the shoulder. Leeson runs to his SUV, and grabs an M&P 15 patrol rifle, and returns fire. The shooting stops for a while. Medics with RCFR and RMR arrive on scene. 3 Officers and 1 Deputy were shot. All of them are still in hospital. BOLO's were later sent out.

The Second Shooting; January 3rd-4th

After everyone was hospitalized, Supervisor Leeson puts two and two together, and realized that Kenneth, the man who collapsed, was a distraction. He returns to the scene of the crime at midnight on January 3th. The road is closed, so he enters through another route. Then, a sniper shoots at his car. Leeson returned fire, shooting through his windshield and press the panic button on his cars radio.

Leeson: *POP* *GLASS SMASHING* *POP *POP* *POP* *PANIC TONES*

Within minutes, both RCPD and LCSO arrive on scene, again. A tactical team was deployed. Just as the last car arrives, a parked van bomb explodes on the side of the road, killing 2 officers near the van. Then, more shots were fired, prompting LCSO to set up a sniper tent at the rear of the Power plant, adjacent to the DOT office. After about an hour, the shooting stopped.

The Third Shooting; January 4

All Law Enforcement Agencies were put on red alert in the hours since the shooting. The RCPD got intel that groups of gangs were finding in the workshop, SWAT arrived at 1:12 PM and at 1:15 PM SWAT decided to go inside and at 1:17 PM massive shots rang out as the group started to fight back at the garage. hitting observers and a officer. All officers returned fire. Three suspects snuck down to the Parking Garage. The Shootout happened till 1:26 PM. 8 Suspects died, 2 Injured and One SWAT officer dead.

The Final Shooting; January 5

At 06:14 on January 5, The FSB had checkpoints on every exit of Interblox 55. At the on ramp to Interblox 55 South, a black car with drivers whos faces were covered by balaclavas drove up, shot the sheriff's deputy at the till, and drove onto the highway. The deputy was wearing a vest, so he was only grazed. He engaged in a pursuit, and the suspect crashed into a tree. They shot at the deputy and his backup through the rear window, but were shot dead, but not before 3 deputies died due to the marksmanship of the shooters. The shooters were not identified.
