In 2026, artificial gravity was tested with a big space station module and a capsule for piloting it. The ship was tethered unsteadily (later, it became a requirement that all experiments involving the creation of an artificial gravitational field of some sort to use a steady tether).
The mission was only for testing.
The astronauts docked to a part to anchor to the the tether. The other astronaut went to the second part. He used his jetpack slowly to get to the big module. There was also piloting control systems for the tether inside the module. The astronauts sat down and started spinning it, then made it spin by itself automatically. The astronaut in the module stepped out of the seat. The unsteady tether was now steady, and then the astronaut started walking.
